The Greek word for "edifying" is "oikodomḗ" (οἰκοδομή), which, accoring to the Thayer's Expanded Greek Definition, Electronic Database means "the act of building, building up; metaph. edifying, edification; the act of one who promotes another's growth in Christian wisdom, piety, happiness, holiness."
According to Scripture, God called pastors to spiritually build up, that is, edify the church, the body of Christ, through the teaching of the Word of God (1 Peter 5:1-4, John 21:15-17). Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, "... It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God". Therefore, it is our desire to edify the body of Christ through the Word of God. Therefore, we emphasize the systematic and expositional teachings of the Scriptures. For that reason, we encourage everyone to bring their Bibles as they will be used throughout the service.
